After months raising money and gathering supplies for the trip April 25-May 4, 2008, Miles McPherson and nearly 300 volunteers spent a week in communities in Montego Bay. Teams worked with government and professional agencies as well as more than 100 Jamaican churches to provide:

  • More than $5 million in free medical care and equipment (treating over 6,000 patients) available in four free clinics throughout Montego Bay.
  • Construction on two primary and junior high schools in Montego Bay: the building of a 400-foot-long wall around one school, plus the renovation of student lavatories, and the repainting and renovation of a second school.
  • Presentations by 40 volunteers at school assemblies throughout Montego Bay to promote education and making good life choices.
  • A class in deaf education.
  • Sports clinics hosted throughout the community by 40 athletes, including a former NBA professional basketball player and NFL American football player, along with former Jamaica national football (soccer) stars Warren Barrett, a former national captain, and "Paul" Tegat Davis, a formidable striker.
  • Two free festivals including a family fun zone, and top Caribbean and American artists like Papa San, Israel Houghton and New Breed, Carlene Davis, Omari, Prodigal Son, New Generation and TobyMac.

Looking Ahead

Miles Ahead is currently holding meetings with community leaders in Trinidad, with the goal of announcing plans for a week of "faith tourism" humanitarian outreach there in 2009, similar to the Miles Ahead operation in Jamaica.

In mid-June we held a leadership for ministers and others in Belize. We're making plans for more activities in Belize, and in St. Lucia and Barbados as well.
